About River Valley Legal Aid, Pro Bono Indiana Inc.:

River Valley Legal Aid, Pro Bono Indiana Inc. is a private not-for-profit legal services provider that serves low-income individuals in the rural counties of Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Shelby, and Rush in South Central Indiana.

River Valley Legal Aid, Pro Bono Indiana Inc. provides civil legal services only and does not handle criminal matters. All services provided through River Valley Legal Aid are offered at no cost to eligible applicants.

River Valley Legal Aid, Pro Bono Indiana Inc. has provided pro bono (FREE) referral and legal counseling services to eligible applicants in Bartholomew County since its formation by the Bartholomew County Bar Association in 1982. After Legal Aid became the plan administrator in 2001, additional counties were added, ultimately expanding the service area to eight counties.

All lawyer referral services provided by River Valley Legal Aid, Pro Bono Indiana Inc. are performed on a purely volunteer basis, and participating attorneys are not financially compensated for their time.

River Valley Legal Aid, Pro Bono Indiana Inc. is funded through a combination of government and federal grants, local and state nonprofit agencies, companies, foundations, and generous donations from individuals.

Legal Aid Clinics

Legal Aid provides several legal clinics each month, including both in-person and phone clinics. Participants can expect a brief, confidential consultation with a volunteer community attorney. Attorneys will answer basic questions, provide limited legal advice regarding rights and obligations, and offer guidance on general civil legal matters.

All clinic services are provided free of charge.
